What are the regulations on sound?
The Building Regulations, Part E – SI 606 (2014)
E1 Sound
Each wall and floor separating a dwelling from –
another dwelling or dwellings,
other parts of the same building and
adjoining buildings
shall be designed and constructed to provide reasonable sound resistance.
E2 Reverberation
The common internal part of a building that provides direct access to a dwelling shall be designed and constructed to limit reverberation in the common part to a reasonable level.
E3 Definitions
‘reverberation’ – the persistence of sound in a space after a sound source has been stopped.
